I and my friends are beginners at table tennis. I told them about your coaching tips and how can we increase our consistency using different practices but they don't agree, they think that we can play better only by practicing fast and spinny shots. What should I do?

Hi Rudraansh,

The first thing is to get the stroke correct and then you will be able to be more consistent. Increasing speed and spin is the next step.

Getting it to a match type speed is important in training but if you are not making any shots on the table then it is difficult to know what a successful stroke feels like.

The Controller

Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
