hi

I've been playing with my coach for a long time but I still have a problem he usually sends me a very Spinny serve close to the net and when I return, it gives him a gold attacking opportunity

I wanted to know if there is a good return to this type of serve.

Hi Ali,

Try a few different options.  If he is finding the return you are doing easy, experiment.  You may return it shorter or longer or lower or with more spin or less spin.  See which one he likes the least.

Our section on Receiving Secrets covers this area comprehensively.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.

And have you any advice how to CREATE similar serves?

In my case, faster brush means longer ball and if I try to touch it lightly I miss the ball or send a spinless ball under the table.

I do not know why the first problem happens,so my training is useless because I only train it badly
