Spin on 3rd ball

Serving

Hi guys,

I have recently mastered my service return, and feel confident in my ability to read & return spin on a serve. My method is to hit the same side of the ball that the server strikes, to get a decent return. My new problem is occurs when I am serving. It will be easier to explain with an example: I am right handed- If I serve a very spinny pendulum side spin serve, the 3rd ball is sometimes tricky. To handle this spin on the 3rd ball, should I hit same side of the ball I contacted on my serve?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Yes you would hit the same side again.

The other thing to think about though is to make a topspin on that third ball where you really brush fast up the back of the ball.  This will negate the sidespin on the ball and get the ball spinning the way you want it to.
