Hi Alois

What sort of spin should use when trying to play around the net. I have tried this twice in the last few weeks, top spin on my backhand and side spin on my forhand. On both occasion losing the point.

Hi thad,

This is something that you need to do more than twice to get it right.  It is a really difficult shot.  I think sidespin helps the ball curve around the net post but it also reduces the accuracy. It is a bit of fun to practice during training.  Get someone to serve the ball out wide to you and have a go at the shot.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
