Soft Topspin against heavy backspin

Strategy

Dear Coach,

Many players at our club simply defend by continuously chopping(heavy backspin) as they want us  attackers to make mistake.

My friend told me to be more patient with my first soft topspin (lift ball) on backspin.

What he meant is that I should rally the chop against chop (heavy backspin) until the opponent makes a mistake by returning a higher ball (backspin) then I can do a soft topspin and next kill by a smash or loop kill which I am more comfortable with.

Can we do a soft topspin on all long , deep and low heavy backspin as I am simply impatient in doing a rally of backspin.

Regards

Rama

Hi Rama,

If the ball is long you can do a topspin.  The tactic of pushing until you get the higher ball keeps the defender closer to the table so that when you make the topspin they are not back in their chopping position.

You can even wait for the higher ball and play it faster which will make it harder for the chopper.
