Hi Alois and Jeff,

I'm really not sure how to differentiate how they must work and how they are recommended, these three types of sponges. So I decided to let you fill up my question like this:

SOFT advantage - , best in FH or BH? because why? -

MEDIUM HARD/SOFT advantage - best in FH or BH? because why? -

HARD advantage - best in FH or BH? because why? -

and what is your best combination if YOU would recommend to us or something that would be a common combination? Example, you recommend a Soft Sponge on a FH and Medium Hard on BH. (without training probabilities)

I do hope you understand my point. Thanks!

Hi Cloud,

Probably the best thing is to do a search on the Ask the Coach questions for 'Rubber hardness'.  You will find quite a few responses to similar questions that will cover a wide range of information about this.

As far as recommending one particular type it is always a matter of preference.  There are good players that play with both hard and soft sponges on both their forehand and backhand.
