Strokes

Hi Ping Skills,

Lately, I have been practicing a Side-spin Backhand Topspin with really good results. I have noticed if I brush the ball with a little of side-spin to my right, the ball will bounce and will force my opponent to move further to the table.

Is a good thing to spend time practicing this shot?

Which should be the correct technique for this shot?

I really appreciate for the good materials that you can find here. I can really see progress in my game, I'm a lot more consistent.

Hope the best and thanks in advance.

Hi Gerrardo,

If your basic techniques are good then you can experiment with the sidespin topspins.  It can be an effective stroke but it is more risky as well.  It is important that you can do the straight topspin first.

To get the ball to spin sideways, you need to brush the ball on the side. So drop the end of the bat lower to get the angle of your bat right.

WE do have a video response to an Ask the Coach question that shows you this stroke. Curve with Backhand.
