Side spin

Strokes

I recently looked at side spin. On a video, it showed the ball spinning on an axis. It then showed the ball travelling in a different direction after it made contact with the opponent's side. How do I do this?

Thanks, Krishan

Hi Krishan,

The side spin that you generate is what will make the ball change direction after it hits the table.

To generate side spin you need to brush the ball on the side.  It is best to start by doing this away from the table and get the ball to bounce on the floor and see if you can get it to curve.  Once you do this then you can try it on the table as well.

I tried it on carpet but all I see is the ball spinning on the floor. It didnt make a move.

Keep working on the brushing action.  Try it on hard floor and see what happens.

Oh thanks. I tried it on tiled floor and it moved in a different direction. In the video it moved more but I guess that is with practice.
