Hey Coach, do they use comparitively smaller tables in tournaments? This is because the last time i played a tournament, I noticed the tables out there were smaller than the table on which i practise.

Hi Jordi,

A lot of people have this feeling when they play in a tournament.  The tables will be the same size.  Just in a bigger hall the tables always seem to be smaller than they are in a garage or shed or even a local club.

It is hard to convince players that they are the same size but in fact they are.

Has anyone else had this feeling?

There is an unwritten law of table tennis that is in the mathematical genre of “inverse square principals”, and it goes something like this: ….. “The perceived area of table (at your end) is inversely proportional to square of the standard of opponent and the quality of their shots.”. This also applies to the net height.
