Hi, Alois and Jeff. Here is my question. If my opponent serve near to net, then I push the ball. When we playing short ball at the net, if my opponent pushing a long ball far to my table, then how to quickly back return the ball, or we can stop him pushing the ball far to my table. Any tips or techniques for this question?

Thanks.

Hi Elvin,

It is difficult to stop them pushing the ball fast to your middle.  It is important when you are playing the short push to keep moving on your toes and push back each time.  If the ball comes short again, then you can move back in but if the ball comes long you are ready to make the topspin.

This is something that you need to practice during your training.  Get your training partner to push short to you and randomly, push one long.  You need to keep pushing short back to them until the long ball comes which you need to topspin.

Stay on your toes and jump in and out each time.

If I return the short ball near the net, my opponent quickly push the ball near the net when I am going back to my table. Is it he can use this strategy to drain my energy for come forward and back frequently?

Hi Elvin,

If you practice it then you will be able to cope with it.  If you can beat him at the short game then he will have to give you opportunities to attack.

Is this a good strategy to win a person using short and long push?

It's easy to go from short to long but much harder to go from long to short.  In fact, if someone tries to go form long to short, chances are it is not a true short ball (i.e. bounce more than once on your side of the table) and you should actually be able to attack it.
