Hi coach,
Recently I have been working on my serves and I have managed to develop a few styles - when I say style I mean the look of the serve. As I observe, many high level shakehand players have at least two styles (Samsonov has three: high toss, fore pendulum & backhand), but is it more practical to vary the spin in one style or use multiple styles instead?
Hi Aphrodite,
Most players will have one or two different serves and use spin, speed and placement variation with those serves.
In this way, the player serving becomes more familiar with the type of return that will come to them. By having one serve with lots of variation it is easy to develop deception with your serves.
