Which serves should I use? I generally play doubles matches in my club and use a GKI Offensive racquet. Till now I got the understanding of Tomahawk, Windshield Wiper, Backhand serve only to a considerable extent. kindly suggest some other serving techniques which are effective in doubles and easy to do for a beginner.

Hi Debayan,

They are all good options, if your opponent doesn't deal well with them.

In doubles it is more important to be able to serve short because your opponent doesn't have as much are to cover on the return.

The most common and safest serve would be a low short backspin serve. Also consider which serve will allow you to get out of the way of your partner most easily. For example, if you're a righthander and you play a tomahawk serve from the center of the table, you can become an obstable for you partner if you're not able to move away very fast.

Most top players use a pendulum backspin serve (with the nospin variation). This way, you have good control and you don't get in your teammate's way.
