Hi Mr.Alois

I wanted to ask you one question. Next week there will be a table tennis tournament in my school and im in a group where are some really good players. Can you recommend me some tricky serves and a good service return? I know lots of serves but i'd like to learn a really good one. Please help me.

Hi Michael,

The best thing to do this close to a tournament is to work on one serve that you are already doing.  It is difficult to learn a new serve that you will be able to use effectively in a match so quickly.

Apart from the serve you also need to then learn the effect it has on the return and what types of returns you will get.  This takes a while to get right.

So, work on your serves that you have now and perhaps focus on one of them and get it better.

For service return look to place the ball to your opponents weakness.  Firstly see which side they are weaker on.  Then see if they like the ball sort or long or fast or slow.  This will change for each opponent you play.

Good luck in the tournament.

In our Premium lesson we are preparing an 8 week Tournament Preparation program that will get you ready to play a tournament.  We will show you what sorts of things that you need to practice 8 weeks out from a tournament.
