Receiving
Dear Coaches,
When I'm receiving back spin or bottom spin serve my return backhand chop or flick or forehand push always goes in the net or goes too high to my opponent. What should I do to give a good return?
Hi Santosh,
It is a matter of getting the angle of your bat right. It is sometime trial and error to get it right. If the ball goes into the net you need to open the angle more, if the ball goes off the end then you need to close your angle.
In our Receiving Secrets Revealed DVD it shows you how to adjust the angle and to identify different spins.
A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
