Equipment
im beginning to look at purchasing a robot, will current robots be fully compatible with the introduction of the new balls later in the year?
Hi Matthew,
This is an interesting question. If anyone else knows the answer to this please let us know.
The thickness of a table tennis table is the most important aspect of a table to ensure you get a true consistent bounce. Other things to consider are the net, portability, and storage space.

I think it may be best to hold off. Cause I'm sure manufacturers will bring out new robots when the new balls come. the current robots maybe able to still use the new balls but probably not as well as robots designed to use new balls would be.
Balls will be different material, slightly different size and weight.
And if your gonna spend some money you may as well wait.

Alois,
I've heard from Robert Katsipis that the new balls have a tolerance of 39.9mm - 40.1mm, where the old balls had a tolerance of 39.6mm - 40.1mm, so all robots should be able to handle the new balls.
That is good news. Yes I saw on the ITTF site that the new balls have smaller tolerances which should make it safe.
