Hi Alois and Jeff I am a big fan of your tutorials and have been wondering, I have been able to do the tomahawk serve that you show in your preview but if you were to do a reverse tomahawk, would you have to just change your bat angle so that the backhand side is facing the ball? I will look forward from hearing from you.

Hi Aaron,

That is right. As you come through, just hit the ball with the backhand side of the bat instead of the forehand side.  It involves a late change of direction with your bat on the swing.  This can be a really effective serve when coupled with the Tomahawk serve.  You often find that opponents haven't seen a lot of this serve and will struggle with it initially at least.

For our Premium members we have the tutorial on the Backhand Tomahawk Serve which will give you some good demonstrations of how to do this serve.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.
