Serving
Hey Jeff and Alois,
When i play the pendulum serve, i can swing my arm fast and use my wrist effectively to generate a lot of spin.
However, when using the reverse pendulum serve, i find it harder to generate as much spin as i can with the regular pendulum serve.
Could you think of any causes (and solutions) for this problem ?
Looking forward to your reply, Jean-Paul
Hi Jean-Paul,
I think it is more difficult to move your wrist fast in the reverse motion. It has less power when moving this way.
Work on keeping the wrist relaxed through the motion and flick the wrist to get maximum speed out of it.
The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

Ok thx for the comment, i will keep the relaxed wrist in mind when training the serve!
Btw I went to the world championship last week here in holland, i noticed that the pro's can generate as much spin with the reverse as with the normal pendulum. Hence my question to the coaches ;)
