Hi Navya, To do the Reverse Pendulum serve start with your elbow up high and the forehand side of your bat facing towards you. Then bring your bat forward and finish with the leading edge pointing at the far net post. It is difficult to visualise. If you can buy a copy of Serving Secrets Revealed. This will show you the serve and break it down for you to follow easily. Good luck with it.

Hey, by the way, the player who is the best in the world (number 1) is Ma Lin from China.

Actually Ma Long is the no 1 player. He recently overtook Wang Hao at the top. Last time I checked Ma Lin was 3rd.

i hate the reverse pendulum, it is so damn hard to do!! ive been trying it for ages and im still inconsistent and daren't use it in a match unless im 10 points ahead! when it works it gets loads of spin but this is so hard. ive not seen anyone in my division use it yet so it cant be just me!

When trying a new serve, the most important thing to focus on is the correct motion. At the moment I have the motion but still could greatly improve on making it shorter and spinnier. That way when you serve it during a match you can gain more confidence

i have the opposite problem. all the reverse pendulums i get on are incredibly spinny and short spinning across the table close to the net (sidespin). it seems i brush the ball a bit too thinly. when i try to put less brush on ie thicken the contact i usually go into the net. i suppose what i am aiming for is somewhere between. i just read the blog section of this site, and its obvious i dont practice service enough these days. i used to go out for an hour and a half in the garage a couple of times a week and just train serves. must sort out the garage so i can do this again.

Oh, right I didn\'t know that. I just assumed he was, I don\'t keep up with up to date events very much; only when I have time to do so.

Hey, Andrew, like Alois says, it does take a long time to groove in (or master) a serve. This usually takes years of practicing the serve through the various stages that are mentioned on the DVD "Serving Secrets Revealed" before you get the serve right. Not only to do it right, but to do the serve right, consistantly. So try and not get annoyed if you can\'t get the serve straight away.

I hope this helps you

dont worry im not annoyed about it. i have enough serves to keep me going. this is just a serve that i want to get in my arsenal next, as i think it will bemuse a lot of players, especially when i can do a pendulm serve first, then the 2nd serve will look like a pendulum only flicking back out to do the reverse pendulum thus giving the opponent very little time to adjust their return and give me a better ball to attack. i also think the reverse one will be excellent to use in doubles games as the sidespin goes the other way giving your partner a nice ball to the forehand.
