Serving
Hi Alois
I have a very good reverse backhand serve similar to the one that Kong Linghui used to use with lots of different variations and spins. It is normally very effective but often I find it really difficult to generate enough backspin with the motion and the ball just gets flicked back to me (usually with the backhand). Do you have any tips?
Hi Rafe,
This serve is difficult to generate spin with because of the action of the wrist. It is more about being able to keep the ball short and low and to difficult positions to gain an advantage, rather than trying to generate a lot of spin.
The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

I would say that you shouldn't use that serve a lot. The only advantage I can see is that it is very easy to serve the ball short, however you can't get a lot of spin or spin variation. I would suggest sticking to the pendulum serve, it has the same type of sidespin.
