Strokes
Hello,
I am having a problem with returning the balls which is a bit higher than the ones to topspin back and a bit lower than the ones to smash. I find myself sub-consciously trying to treat it like a topspin ball and the ball ends up going out of the table. What shot should I play for these kinds of balls?
Sincerely,
Arnab Ghosh
Hi Arnab,
I think you are making the right choice. If it is not high enough to smash then make a topspin. You may just need to adjust your stroke slightly. Get your arm up higher at the start of the stroke and still brush over the top of the ball to generate the topspin that will bring the ball down.

Hi,
In order to brush over top of the ball, I would have to make the bat movement a little forward, rather than upward, right?
Yes that is right.

Okay, in my next practice session, I will try to concentrate on hitting the ball as you suggested and give you a feedback.
Thanks

Yes, I controlled the ball better after following your advice. My efficiency improved a lot for the mid-high balls.
Thanks
Well done.
