Receiving
hey guys,
i wanted to know how to counter a very low sidespin or backspin serve.......what are the strokes to play against it?
Hi Gau,
It is best to push this ball back. The sidespin serve you could also flick if the ball was suitable for you but you are better off to play a short push ball back.
For the backspin serve you need to angle your bat up to counter the backspin on the ball. For the sidespin, angle your bat to the side to counter the sidespin on the ball.
For more in depth information you can also get a copy of the Receiving Secrets Revealed DVD.
After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
