Returning long pimples pushes

Strategy

Hi Alois.

I played a guy yesterday who used long pimples on his bh.

when I served backspin and he pushd the ball with long pimples the ball often went out at the end of the table.

Or it was a high ball and he smashed it at me.

When playing other players I push really well.

Why the ball is high against long pimples?  I think his pushes didn't have backspin but they had topspin on them.

What to do against long pimple pushes?

Hi Ali,

Your shot was going high because the long pimple doesn't create as much spin as with inverted rubber.  So when they are push with the long pimple your brain and memory will be telling you that there is backspin on the ball however the long pimple isn't generating much backspin.  Therefore the ball goes up high.

Once you understand what is happening you will then be able to attack that ball that is coming back to you with no spin or a bit of topspin.
