Hi Alois,
I have a problem: I can't return correctly a long fast backspin serve with my long pimple backhand (pimple in OX, without sponge).
I try to push the ball but my return is too high or too long. My opponent is attacking the ball with a fast ball.
How can I return such a serve and how can I push pressure on the opponent with my return?
Sorry for my English. I hope you'll understand what I wrote.
Have a nice day,

Hi Jean- Albert,
This can be a weakness of the long pimple player. You need to really push forward not the ball with a flat bat. As soon as you open the face of the bat the ball will go high and allow the server to make a strong attack. You can even attack the backspin serve by hitting over the ball slightly. The backspin on the ball will come out of your bat with some topspin allowing you to make a fast flat attacking shot.
A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
