Strokes
Hello,
I'm pretty decent at returning back fast shots by slicing or chopping them with my backhand, Lately I've been trying to start returning those with my forehand but I can't seem to get enough topspin to keep it over the net or on the table. My topspin shots seem to hit the net a lot even when the ball is not too low.
What are some tips on improving consistency with the forehand? And also countering fast pace shots with fast returns? I'm using a basic Stiga bat that was USD $10..It's not the best but it does put a lot more spin on the ball than the hard paddles we have at school.
Hi Will,
Look at your technique on the forehand first. Check out the forehand lessons and make sure you are following the basics of start, finish and contact.
If you can do this you will find an improvement. It sounds like you may be hitting the ball a little flat. Concentrate especially on the follow threough, making sure it is finsihing above your eyes.
Your bat may also need updating. Rub your finger across the surface. If it feels like plastic or glass it needs updating. It should grip your finger to be effective.
To counter fast shots with fast returns you really have to make sure you are getting topspin on the ball. Start slow and make sure the stroke is correct. Without topspin the ball will fly long or go straight into the net.
Topspin-to-topspin rallies are fast, dynamic, and can be the key to winning more points! 🏓🔥 Learning how to control these exchanges will help you stay on the attack and put pressure on your opponent.
