I struggle to return halflong fast underspin low services in doubles games. The services are really fast and almost move at table height. With forehand I can't manage them to return. However, with backhand I can return sometimes, if the balls are at little higher above the table height Please provide easy approach to tackle the problem.
Hi Ashoke,
Returning fast, half long underspin services can be tricky, especially in the fast-paced environment of a doubles game. Here are some strategies and techniques to help you improve your returns:
Given the difficulty you’re facing with the forehand, focusing on your backhand might be a good strategy, especially for balls that are low and fast. Practice your backhand push to keep it tight and controlled. A well executed backhand push can neutralise the spin and speed, making it difficult for your opponent to attack on the next shot. You can also focus on watching and making good choices about when the ball comes off the end of the table and you can topspin.
Practice with a partner who can serve fast, half long underspin serves to you repeatedly with you standing in the doubles receiving position. This focused practice will help you adapt to the length, speed and spin.
Remember, consistency comes with practice. The more you train under game like conditions, the better you’ll become at reading the serve and reacting appropriately. Keep at it, and you’ll see improvement over time.
