Hi Alois and Pingskills

when i am in a topspin to topspin, (from forehand to forehand side, against a right handed player) my opponent in occasions give to the ball a bit of sidespin, there is manageable to me, but when they give to the ball a lot of sidespin, i hit it and goes to the direction of the effect (forehand side of my opponent) out of the table...what i have to do? follow the direction of the sidespin, with a forehand sidespin or just hit this ball like in a topspin to topspin?

Thanks

Hi Cristh,

You do need to allow for the sidespin otherwise the ball will keep being dragged over to the left of the table.

You can do this by coming around the outside of the ball like we show you in our lesson on the Sidespin Forehand Topspin or you can push your wrist back to allow for the sidespin.  The second technique is risky because you are not showing a lot of the face of the bat to the ball.  You can also play a straight topspin but you will have to really brush the ball really fast over the top so that you counter all of the sidespin.

Take a look at the lesson on the Sidespin Forehand Topspin and see if you can copy that.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
