Return chopped ball

Strokes

When I return a chopped ball I change the angle of the racket. The heavier the chop and the bigger the angle. Is that the most ideal way to return a chopped ball?

The problem with this approach is that I need to guess the amount of chop in the ball, and if I did that incorrectly, the ball would either hit the net or bounce high.

Is there a common technique that works regardless of the amount of chop in the ball ?

Thanks,

Arsany

Hi Arsany,

here is not a one shot fix for this.  You need to learn to read the amount of spin on the ball eventually.  However, if you are brushing the ball with topspin this will give you a better margin for error as the ball will drop with the topspin on the ball.  The method of opening the angle can work but it is difficult to hit the ball hard and also it doesn't have much safety because of the lack of topspin.

It's why all the best players look like they are hitting the ball so hard without much effort.
