Sir,

I saw Joo Se Hyuk's matches on you tube... i m wondering that how does he decide what the angle of the bat should be and which ball to chop and which ball to impart topspin with? And do the defensive players majorly depend on the mistakes done by their opponents for points?

Hi Shikhar,

Firstly he is one of my favourite players to watch because of his great retrieving ability and then his ability to turn it into an attack.

As far as the angles of his bat that is now like walking for him.. He doesn't need to think about it.  It only comes with years and years of hard training.

If you think about when you are walking, if you started to think about the angle of your foot as it left the floor and then as you placed it down you would probably fall over.  This is the same for him and his strokes.  The less he thinks about it the better he will play.

His decision making as t when he attack is much the same.  He will often though put in a no spin chop and wait for them to push it high and then make the attack.  Another tactic is to play a good deep chop and wait for them to play a weaker topspin and then attack that.  It is all about waiting for the weaker ball from his opponent.

Most defensive players will wait for the other person to make an error but they are always varying the spin, speed and placement of the ball to force the other person to make mistakes.

i am also a big fan of his, he is so versatile, most people have a style of attacker or defender, he does the lot, and at a world leading level. i absolutely love the long rallies where he chops back about 10 loops, and then steps in with a vicious forehand loop kill shot.  also at his level of play, how many players can get away with using pimples on the backhand, not many i bet.
