Dear PingSkills,

What is the best way of receiving short side spin services? Should one always go for the flick? How should one push it? It generally goes very high on pushing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Viki,

You can either flick or push that serve.  If you push it, then make the stroke almost vertical and have your hand relaxed so that you are absorbing the speed of the ball and you will still be able to keep the return short and low.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
