Receiving no spin and topspin serves

Receiving

Hi Pingskills,

An issue has recently occured in my game. I can play against side topspin or even backspin serves to my forehand comfortably but when I play a newer player and they do a simple serve with little spin. I don't attack I just do a passive drive. I block topspin serves as well when I should be hitting. I drive simply instead of attacking an easy serve.

Kind Regards,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

This is an interesting situation.  It seems like you should be able to attack those simple and topspin serves.

Sometimes what happens is players stand too close to the table or are moving into the table as their opponent serves which means you aren't creating enough space to he able to play the attacking stoke you are looking for.

The other thing to think about is that you are watching the serve carefully.  If you watch carefully you will start to see the longer serve coming a little earlier which will give you more time to get into position to be able to attack.
