Re-gluing rubber that is coming off

Equipment

Hi Alois & Jeff,

I bought a pre-assembled bat from a reputable internet equipment provider.  Normally they do great work but in this instance it appears that they didn't put enough glue between the blade and the rubber and now the rubber has started peeling away from the blade at the top of the bat (about 1/2 inch right now).  Since the rubber is only a few months old and is pricey, I'd prefer not to rip the rubber off and replace it with new rubber.  Can I do a local re-glue?  Should I rip the whole rubber off and try to re-glue it back on?  If the latter, I worry about re-aligning the cut rubber back onto the bat.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ken C.

Hi Ken,

This is quite common.  The Table Tennis glue sometimes isn't strong enough.

If you can slip a little glue under the part that is coming off try that.  After you put the glue on try to keep the rubber and blade separate for a while while the glue dries a little then stick them together and hold it down.  You could put some books on top of it for some weight.

If this doesn't take, it may be better to take the whole rubber off and do it.  It should align easily enough.  Start from the bottom of the rubber and roll it on.
