Training
Hey there pingskillers!
This season most of my practices were comprised of warming up, durdle around, maybe work on a specific skill, and then do practice games until practice is over (our club has no coach).
However, for the next season, I want my practices to be more structured and I want work on several essential skills (topspins for example), technique, footwork, and mobility. So, I'm wondering, what kind of drills should be "omnipresent" at every practice or are the standard to work on these aspects?
Hi Jeff,
There are no standards when it comes to drills.
The most important thing to start with is to examine what you need to improve by referring back to you matches. Then design drills that reflect these situations. Start by setting up simple drills and as you go on make them more complex but still working towards the skills that you are focusing on.
Then play some matches and see if you can start to implement the skills in games as well.

Once you've played a topspin off a backspin ball, the next forehand topspin can prove very difficult. I often see people hitting the followup forehand off the end of the table. Watch this master class to see why I think this happens and how to adjust so you can make an effective forehand followup!
