When I push short i cant get good backspin in it, but when i push long i can get a lot of backspin in it.

Is it normal that there is almost no backspin in a short push?

Hi Merijn,

It is easier to get spin on the long push because you can swing a little faster.  It is possible though to generate spin on the short push as well.  You need to work on this though as it is a fine skill.  You need to work on getting a fine contact ion the ball and swing through reasonably fast to generate the spin.  The fine contact will keep the ball short.  As I said though this is a difficult skill and one that needs a lot of practice.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
