Pure Sidespin Loop

Strokes

 Hi Jeff and Alois,

I am a big fan of Russian League table tennis player Yingchao Hou. In many of the videos I've seen in on youtube he appears to do an all sidespin hook loop where there is little or no topspin on the ball. He does this at the 3:30 mark in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpdCbYroM8I

How would I go about playing a stroke like this, it appears more defensive than offensive.

Thanks

Hi Jamie,

It can be an effective stroke.  There is a lot of sidespin on it.  Because there is little to no topspin it feels like it has backspin.

Take a look at our lesson on Sidespin Forehand Topspin.
