Problem with rubber or technique

Strokes

I play more for recreation. Most of the people I play hit the ball short where it doesn't even go off the table. I find it very difficult to put topspin on the ball either with my forehand or backhand. I do not loop the ball (I try), but do have a little bit of topspin. Most of the balls I hit go off the table. I am using the Xiom VII Euro rubber on both sides of my bat. Do you think I'm using the wrong rubbers on my bat or is it really my strokes?

Hi Eric,

With those rubbers you will be able to do the topspin strokes.  I think it is probably more to do with your technique.

Focus on the start and finish positions of the Forehand Topspin stroke.  Then think about getting a brushing contact on the ball.  If you do these things you will get a good topspin happening.
