Strokes
Hi,
when i rally (in a match or just for fun), I would be unable to hit the second ball coming to me. Here is an example: I serve, my opponent pushes, I topspin the ball back, my opponent does the same and when that ball comes back to me, I would be unable to hit it. Is it because I play close to the table? How do I get the ball back onto the table?
Many thanks!
Hi Hao,
Focus on your balance during and after the shot. If you are balanced you will give yourself a much better chance of hitting the next ball. Take a look at our lesson on the Basic Stance and Premium members can also look at Leg Position.
Secondly, think about watching the ball carefully right throughout the rally. This will give you more time to react to where the next ball is coming.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
