Hi,

when I do a forehand flick, I would do it as though I am doing a forehand loop. The problem I face is if my opponent blocks my flick(or loop in this case!) or counterloops, I would have problem receiving as my end position would be very close to the table( my hand is very near the net). Also when I do a over-the-table backhand loop (or is it a backhand sidespin flick?-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8V2e48kcig), the ball would go into the net.

How do I overcome this 2 problems?!

Hi Hao,

The first issue is about getting back into the ready position fast enough.  Go in for the short ball by moving your right foot under the table and close to the contact point.

When you flick you know the next ball is going to come back long to you, so as soon as you make the flick shot, push back fast and hard with your front foot.  Jump back to the ready position and you will be able to make the next shot effectively.

For the second issue take a look at our lesson on the Backhand Sidespin Flick.  By adding a little sidespin it will make it easier to lift the ball over the net especially against the backspin ball.  It is difficult to get enough lift if you play with straight topspin on that short ball.
