Pre match warm up

Strategy

Jeff and Alois,

Any advice on how to deal with a particular situation. Before playing a match it is customary for opponents to help each other warm up. One player I have encountered starts the warm up but just tries to smash every ball! Even playing back spin doesn't stop them. So although they may miss, I'm not getting warmed up. Then as a double whammy I get annoyed with the lack of courtesy and am not focused on the match. Should I politely refuse to warm up. I did ask them previously just to keep the ball going for a bit but that was ignored and the next ball just smashed. Is it better to try and warm up and again ask them to try and be steady and if they don't just concentrate on my own focus. But then, aren't they getting away with gamesmanship?

I'm happy to give them smashing practice for a few balls but that doesn't seem to be what it is about.

Hi Nigel,

I would go into the warm up expecting this and try to make sure that you are ready to go before you go out on to the court for the match.  In your pre match warm up ensure you are physically ready but then also try to get the consistency you want in that previous warm up.

It isn't an easy situation if they refuse to change their habits.
