How do you recommend practicing the pendulum serve and what spin is generally the most effective for it?

Hi Owen,

Get a bucket of balls.  20 or 30 will do to start with.

Do some repetitive practice of the serve focusing first on getting the swing first, then the contact and then the placement better.

You can even start off the table so that you are not worrying about where the ball is landing.  Just focusing on the action and the contact.  You will also see what type of spin is on the ball by the way the ball behaves on the floor.

I think the easiest spin to start with is the Sidespin as the racket is naturally in this position when you set up for the Pendulum serve.

Take a look through the tutorial on the Pendulum Serve for the basics.
