Strokes
Dear Alois & Jeff,
I have a very bad habit of pouncing and hard hitting the ball if it tosses a little high. I get very much tempted and try to smash the ball whether in forehand or backhand. What I do, is end up hitting the ball sky high or dragging it to the net. I loose so many easy points likewise.
Please tell me a solution.
Thanks & Regards.....
Hi Subhrajyoti,
There's nothing wrong with hitting high balls a little harder. The key is to keep your stroke technically correct. If the ball is not really high then try using a forehand or backhand topspin stroke since the topspin will give you more margin for error.
And for the higher balls make sure you take a look at our tutorial on the forehand smash as it has some great tips to make your shot more consistent. The main point is to get into a good position but it also talks about ways to stop dragging the ball into the net.
Good luck!
Question actions
Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:
✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
