Hi Alois

I always play random drills with my coach and I perform well but why I always do not play as well when playing with a friend.

Hi Yap,

This could have something to do with tension when you are playing matches.  Take a look at our lesson in our Sports Psychology section on how to Recognise Your Feelings.

Alois, but I am not playing a match with my friend and this still happens.

Hi Yap,

I am not sure, but it may be that your coach hits the ball well and what we call cleanly.  So the ball is coming with regular spin and he also places it well however your friend may not be hitting the ball so well so the ball comes with awkward spin and timing.

Hi Alois

I agree with what your say. So how can I counteract these balls with awkward spin and timing?

Just improving your overall strokes will eventually mean that you can overpower these types of players.
