Hello Alois.

I have a guy that has a style as aggresive as Ryu Seung Min.

I have to say that he is better than me, but do you have any tips of winning someone who has such an aggresive style?

I block all his shots but still I eventually lose.

Any tips please?

-Thank you-

Hi Chris,

Think about making it as difficult as possible for him to make the attack.  If you can keep the ball low then there is less chance he will make his big shots... unless he actually is Ryu Seung Min.

I enjoy playing these sorts of players because I feel if I can be consistent and keep them under enough pressure they will make enough mistakes for me to win.  Even if they make some good shots, it is difficult for players like that to win overall.

try serving fast and wide , when he loops the return try hitting with a flat bat fast towards their weaker side .  I often do it to my training partner who is also very aggressive . I don't get the point every time but when I attempt that stroke with lots of commitment and some anticipation it is a screamer .

Coach alois, do you think it is a good tactic as my practice partner has some good spinng topspins which I find hard to keep low .

This can be good if they are not expecting the serve or if their return is always predictable and you can counter it.

If you can team up with a real agressive attacker in doubles it will help you to be more agressive-positive in doubles and single play. I am inbetween a defender and an attacker i am an allrounder. So when i teamed up with an attacker i played more agressive. The bonus to this for me was the player i was put with was an extremly attacking player.

Also he was then and still is now a fantasic bloke, his positiveness and fantasic attitude gave me confidence. I played heaps better and when one of us had to win to win the night-comp-tournament we won. So i recomend playing with a partner who is an attacker and has a positive attacking mind set can only be good for you.

All the comments so far are really helpful thanks everyone.

when they serve short push the ball short as well when they push it long then attack because very aggresive player hate it when they just defend then you ca get the point try it anyway maybe you can defeat him.

Keep the ball low and short with heavy chop-slice and some no spin. Move him around and give him nothing to attack, make it hard as posible for the attacker. But make sure you are the first one to attack when the right oppertunity comes. If the attacker can't hit anything that is good and when he pops one up kill it i.e. hard counter attack, hard drive, loop kill and the big kill which ever shot is called for at the time.
