Hello, you guys are doing a great job!

I have a question about my playing style during a game. I want to block alot and use my opponents speed, i am trying to play like Matsudaira, Samsonov, Oh Sang Eun. During a game my opponent sometimes starts to play very passive because they know that i do not like it, that i have a hard time finishing the point. Should i continue with my game or should i attack when i get the opportunity? If my opponent change the game because they do not want me to play my game, then i think i should continue with my game? I will practise a lot more on finishing the point with either a good angle or a killerloop. I hope you understand :D, keep up with the good work! Ludde

Hi Ludde,

You are correct.  You should develop your stronger strokes as well.  This is important in the game today.  Work on your topspin and try to develop a strong topspin otherwise you will always have trouble when players can control the ball well.

Good luck Ludde.

The old cliche about blockers is that they cannot attack...that is why they are blockers.  However, even if you have decided that blocking is for you, you become a much more dangerous player if you CAN attack as well.  In my own experience against blockers, they can be fairly easy to beat or fiendishly difficult.  Without question the difficult ones are those that block well, but as soon as you hit a soft lolly shot that is tough to block, they can turn their body and drive/loop as well.  In other words, blockers should be able to increase the pace of the rally (which is their comfort zone) instead of always waiting for the opponent to voluntarily start a faster rally.

Also, I find blockers often do well with long spinless serves.  It is tougher to generate a lot of spin again spinless balls, so the returns usually come fast, which is exactly what blockers enjoy.
