Strategy
Hi Coach,
I have an opponent in my tt club, who uses dr. neubauer gorilla anti spin rubber. If he uses the rubber for blocking, it comes slowly but when I try to kill the ball, it directly goes into the net and if I spin the ball, it goes very high and the opponent attacks the ball. Please suggest how the ball should be played.
Hi Shravan,
The Anti spin rubbers reverse the spin on the ball. So it will depend on the type of spin you are putting on the ball as to what you will get back.
You will find if you play an attacking topspin it will come back with some topspin. It is a matter of getting used to the different response of the rubber. Try to find someone that you can practice with and you will soon get used to the spins.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
