Hi,

There is a player in my league that chops with incredibly heavy spin which is exceptionally hard to loop. Pushing the ball back would not work because he is far more experienced than I am and would just keep it on the table the whole time. Is it just a question of changing the angle of my bat when looping?

Thanks

Hi Sam,

Yes try changing the angle of your bat and making the stroke more vertical.  This should help you to lift the ball over.  Also try to increase the speed of your swing.  The extra speed will also help with the lifting.

Try to use one ball long one ball short strategy with such players .even I found playing with choppers tough until I discovered that they find the in out strategy awkward to play with. Initially i tried with one long push and one short push , then as i graduated to better FH topspin against backspin i tried one topspin and one push . It worked wonders. you could also try it .

Any thoughts on it coach alois?

Why is it that the world class players look like they're using such little effort to get the ball over? It cannot possibly be because the players are using heavier spin at club level right?

Soham,

Topspin one and push one can be a good simple tactic you can use.

Oliver,

The best players make a lot of things look easy.  One reason is that they are using less effort because they are more relaxed because they have trust and confidence in their stroke rather than hoping that the ball is going on.  The confidence and smoothness makes it feel and look effortless.  It certainly isn't that the club players put more backspin...
