If a servers side of the table was divided into say 3 equal columns and those 3 columns were divided to 3 equal sized rows making 9equal sized areas (call them A1 area=left most area closest to me (the server)--  A2 between A1 and A3, A3 right most area closest to me---B1, B2 and B3 being the 3 middle rows and C1 = left area closest to the net, C2 = the areabetween C1 and C3 and C3 being the area closest to the net on the right side.....can estimate (and say you were playing 1000 rating right hand players) which areas of my side of the table would be hit by balls most often????

Seems that C2 might be hit the least often and then C1 and then C3 but I am struggling with the ranking of the other 6 areas.   Can you provide me with any help?  An educated guess as to how the areas would be ranked?

Thanks  Larry

Hi Larry,

The line between B1 and B2 and also the line between B2 and B3 would be the areas that are hit the most because they are safe areas.  As players get better, they start to get the ball closer to the lines more consistently and play more balls short on the table.

They would start to play a lot more balls early in the rally to all the 'C' areas especially C2. They would also start to get more shots into A1 which, if I am following correctly, is deep into your backhand corner.  Their open rally hitting would also get closer to the 'A' areas in general more consistently.

Hope this helps.
