Dear Alois

I am a penholder who uses a normal shakehand bat. I sweat a lot so when i do a RBP my fingers slip and i can't aim properly. I am very low on pocket money so me getting a new bat is not an option for about a year. Is there anything i can do to make it easier for me.

Hi Haris,

You can attach a small piece of wood on top of your current handle if you like.  This will help you to grip the bat better.  You can put your index finger around the top piece of wood to make it more secure.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.

Hi Alois and Jeff

I am an offensive shakehand player who loves to smash. I usually play against a penholder who is really good at spinning the ball, but is horrible at smashing. Is there a strategy that i can use to beat him?

Try keeping the ball low with backspin or topspin a little slower.  This is usually a more difficult ball for them to deal with.
