Penhold backhand

Strokes

Hi Pingskills, I was wondering if you could make a video on how to do backhand topspin with the penhold grip because it used to be my best shot. I could hit it so fast and with so much spin none of my opponents could return it. Now it only ever hits the net or goes off the table when the opponent hits a low shot. I can do it when the ball bounces high but that rarely happens so its pointless. Thanks

Hi Jack,

The shot is usually dependent on the angle of your bat.  See if you can open the angle and make sure the contact is a brushing contact to generate the topspin.

Go back and do the stroke slowly till you get the feel for it again.

Take a look at the lesson we have on Youtube on Penhold Techniques for Table Tennis.

Thanks so much I remembered how to do it again. I think I forgot because I haven't been playing much recently due to studying for my GCSE exams. Jack
