Hi PingSkills

I saw a lot of advanced players like to follow through after they do the pendulum serve.  Is it effected the ball or just to trick the opponent? should we do that or not?

Hi Frendy,

It is basically just for effect and to confuse your opponent.  It doesn’t add anything after the ball has been contacted.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

It kind of affects the amount of force and spin I exert though

Hi Kong,

You should focus on normal serve and simple contact till you feel comfortable with that.

I found some top players like to follow through the serve (zhang ji ke, ma lin, etc) and some of them never do that (Ma long, Timo Boll, etc)

If the follow through is to confuse the opponent, why some of them don't want to do that?
