Hi Hanson,

THe next step would be a better pre made bat or if you could wait and save then I would go for a lower end custom made bat.

The bats that we recommend are the PingSkills Rook or the PingSkills Touch.  While they are over your budget, it may be worth the wait.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.

Hi Matthew,

It may be the bat that is not allowing you to get enough spin.  I think it is worth saving up for a better paddle over the next few months.  Using a shakehand bat is OK for penhold play to start with.  The most important thing is to get a bat with enough grip on the rubber.  Take a look at our lesson on Choosing a Table Tennis Bat.

Hi Matthew,

Spend up to $70 but make sure the quality of the rubber is good.  Check it has sponge under the rubber.  Have you watched the lesson link I sent through?
